Wood Destroying Organisms

Termites, wood destroying organisms and mold need moisture and high humidity to survive, spread and multiply, thus they will seek these locations of high moisture and humidity to infest. The first and most important step in the control and eradication of these serious problems is the location of the areas of excess moisture which are often hidden.

Short Guide to using the Tramex Skipper Moisture Meter on GRP Written by Nigel Clegg

Introduction:

Most people think of electronic moisture meters as a specialist tool used only by boatyards and yacht surveyors, but increasing numbers of private boat owners are finding them invaluable for examining their own boats. Contrary to popular belief, moisture meters are very easy to operate, and with regular use, owners can chart the condition of their boats from one season to the next, thereby avoiding nasty surprises. A moisture meter is also a good investment when buying a second-hand boat, and can be used to check over potential vessels before splashing out on survey fees.

TRAMEX NEW MRH III Moisture and Humidity Meter

Tramex Launch the new MRH moisture inspection kit which incorporates Tramex’s reliable non invasive impedance test with a heavy duty pin probe and a relative humidity probe.
When testing different building materials simply choose the appropriate scale and push the meter against the material and read the results on the clear display. The signal will penetrate deep into the building material so it is ideal for reading through tiles and other coverings.

Moisture testing of concrete sub floors

There is a lot of confusion in the UK flooring industry, due to the different test methods for measuring moisture in sub floors and the different units of measurement associated with them.

To determine when a floor is dry one can be directed to look for readings below 75% RH, below 2.5% moisture content, or below 4% moisture content depending on the type of test carried out and these are just the most commonly used tests in the UK. The VTT * in Finland carried out a study to find out the best non-destructive test for measuring moisture in concrete and they tested 13 different methods.

Non Destructive Moisture Testing and Preventive Maintenance

Roofs should not be forgotten or left unattended without care or maintenance. There is an old US saying “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” - logic - but not in the case of roofs. Roofs are an exception because they may be broken and you do not know it. Roof owners too often assume that if water is not leaking into the building their roof is in good shape, this can be a very expensive assumption for many roofs have problems long before water leaks into the building. Roofs can not be forgotten ,or left unattended, and neglected, with any expectation of a problem free long life. Records show that the unattended roof will fail before it reaches half its designed life.

Non-Invasive Moisture Meters For Spray Foam Applicators

The advantages of applying a spray foam system over an existing flat roofing system have been well documented in recent years. These systems have been shown to perform well if applied correctly and there are many high quality installations and hence satisfied customers. What would appear to be less well documented are the techniques and procedures for locating and dealing with the problem areas of a roofing system before the foam and coatings are applied. I am going to focus on the necessity and the benefits of carrying out a thorough moisture inspection survey of the roof before any repairs are carried out and the foam applied.

Moisture Meters for Building Inspection, Mold Remediation

In order to understand the connections between mold, moisture and meters, it should first be understood that for mold to grow and thrive, it needs two vital ingredients – namely food and water. Microbial growth is dependent on these two life-supporting ingredients coming together.
